Bear is a beautiful brindle neutered male, who is good sized – approximately 60 pounds – and athletic. He is affectionate, and has an appealing teddy bear face. Bear came to Illinois Humane from Cedar Rapid’s 2008 temporary flood relief shelter where he was relinquished when his owner was overwhelmed in the flood crisis. Bear is looking for human companions who understand his breed, and enjoy an active life style but yet also treasure snuggling with their pet. If there is someone in the house who runs for exercise, Bear will delight in and support your exercise regimen. Bear himself, at his foster home, uses a tread mill on rainy days, just to make sure he gets his proper exercise. Bear, in his own personal training regimen, uses a cute backpack to help carry his foster Dad’s keys, and cell phone, and anything else – like water – that needs to be brought along. There is a pack of pit bull mixes at Bear’s current foster. Bear gets along best with more relaxed animals that don’t need to be dominant. With proper introduction and handling, he has come to get along with the chihuahuas and rat terriers in the household. He does not do so well with a rather pushy, dominant male at the foster home. That rather pushy, dominant male originally was another Illinois Humane dog so we aren’t too critical, and we forgive Bear for not putting up with it. Bear is housebroken, microchipped and up-to-date on shots.
