Dolly truly loves the people she has come to know and trust. She is a mature spayed female Cattle Dog, microchipped and up to date on her shots. Dolly is very healthy, and is thought to be about 6 years old. She probably has never met a cow or steer, but she has the breed characteristics of a cattle dog. According to the AKC you can expect the following in temperament from a cattle dog: “The Cattle Dog's loyalty and protective instincts make it a self-appointed guardian to the Stockman, his herd and his property.” Dolly has to be properly introduced to strangers, human or canine, and will take her time getting to know them. However, once she makes friends she is a loyal companion brimming with unconditional exuberant affection. Dolly very much appears to have a greater affinity for women than men. This simply means she makes a woman’s acquaintance more easily. However, the men who have taken the time to get to know Dolly have as solid a friend in Dolly as is the case with any woman. Dolly also seems to instinctively know children are special beings, and she is respectful of them. Dolly would be best in a house where there is not a lot of traffic involving folks who are not well known to the household. Also, she would be great for a home that feels a need for her protective qualities. It is believed she probably would be best as an only animal in the household. She has been walked with and has associated with relaxed, non-dominate males. Dolly is not good with cats, that is, either indoor or outdoor cats. Dolly is currently in a foster home. She appears to be housebroken, her foster home having gotten her on a good schedule. Her foster home is now working on getting her accustom to a crate. Dolly’s foster mom reports that Dolly learns quickly. Foster Mom continues to work with Dolly on socialization, both with men and other dogs.
